this resolves the issue of having to remove the :1 ipv6 address when the client dies.
I'll see how long this stays up and get back to you.

Comment by Karl Auer on February 23, 2010 at 8:17am: James - don't run the TSPC client - run the latest client, gw6c. It works very well on Debian - or rather, on Ubuntu, which is a Debian derivative.

I have seen that the latest client fails sometimes too, in that it treats certain things as permanent unrecoverable failures when it should just keep trying. For example, if it can't resolve the broker name it just stops!

My solution was a script that reruns the client if it exits.

This is not the same as your problem, though the solution might work in your case too.

I am running Debian Lenny with the TSPC client software.
I hot the bug where after "x" time the tunnel times out and my connection is lost.
I tried to work around this by setting up a ping -6 in the background which fired ever 60 seconds. This keeps the tunnel up for considerably longer but still dies now and again leaving my site down. Are any of your ""experts" able to help run a script which will see that the ping -6 fails and then attempts to restart the tspc client, so i can work around this rather annoying issue. Or if not does gw6c work better on Debian? All help as always gratefully accepted.
