Hello, as you may have heard we are holding the first gogoNET LIVE! Conference in early November in the Silicon Valley. To provide the best possible agenda we have posted the conference sessions for review and are now asking gogoNET members to let us know what they think.

To add your thoughts, go to http://bit.ly/axKzZ2 and click on any session to join the discussion about that topic. Given your interest in software development I would especially like to hear what you'd be looking for in the software development workshop http://bit.ly/acrzS5 and the software development presentation track http://bit.ly/9F5Xxg. Also, we have a session on getting started with v6 in your home network http://bit.ly/9CxHeF.

Thanks for your input

One of the major challenges to IPv6 transition is software application readiness. Hardcoded loopback addresses (127.x.x.x.) and data structures that are only big enough for IPv4 are a challenge in getting out IPv6 ready applications.

Microsoft has a Checkv4 utility to help developers transition to IPv6. Checkv4 goes thru the source code and flags the hard coded IPv4 portions AND recommends the changes necessary to make the code IPv6 ready.

Any one know if a similar Unix tool available ?

Checkv4 is explained in quite a useful guide titled "IPv6 Guide for Windows Sockets Applications". This guide can be for all operating systems in my opinion if you understand how winsock differs from regular sockets.

If anyone knows about books or articles that tackle the same issue then please let us know.

The build environment for OpenSolaris is slightly different, e.g.,

$ uname -a
SunOS turing 5.11 snv_84 i86pc i386 i86pc

It could be a more recent vintage, but never the less, it can have a reasonable compiler,

$ gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.4.3 (csl-sol210-3_4-20050802)

There is only one kink to the environment, that is to set an environment variable to get the _real_ make facility,

$ export MAKE=gmake
$ time make 2>&1 | tee make.log
real 0m14.142s
user 0m11.558s
sys 0m1.688s

Without taking the time to set up sudo, I just became root and made the install,

# make install installdir=/usr/local

Interesting, this world seems to require a modification to the configuration, to set

tunnel_mode=v6v4

Sadly, I still get a TSP error, "Invalid TSP request" where tunnel negotiation failed with a status == 393229!

This is way back in an partially isolated network, though not so remote that I could not post this message via http :P
